Louise Hyams has had the honour and privilege of representing St. James's Ward since her election to the Council in 1998. She is totally committed to improving the quality of life for all the residents of this diverse ward in the centre of London. Over the years, Louise has worked hard to protect locals from noise and disturbance enabling them to have quiet enjoyment of their own homes, whilst enabling businesses to thrive. 

Having been involved in most areas of the Council's work, Louise currently serves on the Council’s Licensing Committee and the Standards Committee.

Louise served as Lord Mayor Of Westminster in 2008/9.

It's time for the Mayor of London to get on and regulate pedicabs

Thousands of local people, along with business owners and tourists, have been calling for the licensing of pedicabs to tackle the rogue operators whose loud noises cause irritation and whose rip-off fares penalise Londoners and visitors alike. Former MP Nickie Aiken delivered the Pedicabs (London) Act 2024 earlier this year, which gave Transport for London the power to finally regulate pedicabs. We call on the Mayor of London to implement the licensing policy here.

As Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan is in charge of our police. Thefts up 31%. Sexual offences up 43%. Robberies up 58%.  Khan's record on crime is clear. He’s lost control and he has no plan to fix it.

Progress on Pedicabs

Our local MP Nickie Aiken has secured Government support for her pedicabs licensing scheme. This will provide TfL with the powers to regulate pedicabs, ensuring that they are safe, that their fares are reasonable, and that rogue operators are appropriately disciplined. In the meantime, Council off

Strutton Ground SW1 Christmas Tree

The St. James's Ward councillors are delighted again to be supporting a Christmas tree in the Strutton Ground street market. The tree will be at its usual place in Strutton Ground between the junctions of Victoria Street and Old Pye Street.

Historic Gas Lamps

Most of the 300 remaining gas lamps in Westminster are in St. James's ward from the Smith Square area next to Parliament, near St. James's Palace and in Covent Garden.
