Our plan for St. James's

Our Plan for St. James's

Residents of St. James’s ward deserve a council that gets the basics right: safe streets, clean neighbourhoods, transport that works for everyone, and public spaces that make Westminster a place we can all be proud of.

But when we speak with local people, we hear the same message: too many people feel less safe than they used to, police presence is too thin on the ground, and our streets are being left looking tired. Costs are rising, yet standards are slipping, and the Labour council simply is not listening despite seemingly endless consultations.

That isn’t good enough, and it doesn’t have to be this way. That’s why we’re standing as your local Conservative candidates this May: to bring a sharper focus on safety, cleaner streets, and a council that treats your money with respect.

Five Local Policy Objectives:

  1. Targeting E-Bikes: Promote responsible cycling and ensure non-hazardous parking;

  2. Improve on street enforcement: Continue to lobby for adequate police resources and, if necessary, supplement with well-trained security officers;

  3. Keeping Streets Clean: Dealing with graffiti promptly and clearing up dumped rubbish quickly;

  4. Hold Social Landlords to account: Get them to improve estate security, deal with repairs promptly and tackle anti-social tenants;

  5. Review Hostel Contracts: Work to make hostels fit for purpose including reducing anti-social behaviour and also stopping drug dealers preying on vulnerable tenants.

Five Local Achievements:

  1. Helped save Jubilee Hall gym for the Covent Garden community;

  2. Spoke up for residents concerned about the impact of planning applications like Nobel House in Smith Square and also public realm schemes like Regent Street St James’s;

  3. Successfully lobbied for more local police and delivered effective enforcement in the Great Peter Street area, by being the first ward to sponsor private security through our ward budget.

  4. Helped residents minimise the impact of licensing proposals like the Greater London Authority’s application for the UEFA Champions League Final 2025

  5. Combatted noisy car clubs in Pall Mall and Piccadilly with ward-funded acoustic cameras, sponsoring targeted police operations and lobbied for a cruising injunction.

We’re ready to get to work, and we’ll keep listening all year round, not just at election time. If you back us, we’ll fight for the St. James’s you expect and deserve.

On Thursday, 7th May, please vote Conservative for real change in Westminster.
