Cllr Paul Swaddle, Prospective MP Samia Hersi and local councillors

We are proud to mark International Women’s Day 2024 to champion the rights of women and girls around the world and here in Westminster.

Deputy Leader of the Westminster Conservative Group, Cllr Caroline Sargent, says,

Our IWD24 commitment to #inspireinclusion is to support women into leadership through the Ask Her to Stand campaign.

As a woman, I know that many of us don’t shout about our achievements or ambitions in the same way some men do.

But many of us have the passion, skills and experience to be leaders or elected representatives in our communities.

I invite you to explore the site and many of you will probably find you also have what it takes to make a difference.

Cllr Laila Cunningham represents Lancaster Gate ward at Westminster Council. She highlighted her achievements in securing more police for her community.

As a councillor, I spearheaded a petition to successfully secure extra police resources for my ward and make it one of the most reinforced Safer Neighbourhood Teams in Westminster.

Maida Vale & Queen's Park's prospective MP Samia Hersi, pictured above with Westminster councillors, added

Wishing all women across Westminster and beyond a Happy International Women’s Day.

I was asked to stand by a brilliant woman and know that there’s so many out there who work tirelessly, championing their community and have what it takes to be an exceptional elected representative.

We need more women to stand for elected office and I’m backing the Ask Her to Stand campaign.

Mayoral candidate Susan Hall AM has shared her reflections on the day. Watch it on X.

Today is International Women's Day - a chance to celebrate the trailblazing women who've shattered barriers and forged their own paths. For the women who've led the way, for those who walk beside us, and for the generations to come. Thank you for everything you do.
