At the last full Council of the current Council cycle Westminster’s City Councillors came together to show their support for the people of Ukraine. At the start of the meeting Westminster’s Lord Mayor read out the following statement.
“Tonight, this Council is of one mind. Westminster City Councillors, cross party, are united in condemning the invasion of Ukraine, and in expressing our deepest sympathies and solidarity for the people of Ukraine.
"We share the global outrage sparked by this attack on democracy, on a peaceful nation, which has already caused senseless deaths and may yet cost many more lives.
"This undermining of a sovereign nation state shatters the security and peace that the Ukrainian people worked so hard to build.
"We, in Westminster, together across the political divide, unreservedly condemn the invasion of Ukraine. To our Ukrainian residents in Westminster, we say: this Council is here for you during these difficult times.
"We will do all we can to provide support wherever possible, to keep you informed, and to join you in praying that a sovereign and independent Ukraine may very soon be restored."
