It is widely known that for the first time in twenty years the new contract on the trains at Marylebone Station is about to be signed.
This has presented an important opportunity to campaign for change.
Since our last Newsletter, your Conservative Councillors including the Leader Rachael Robathan and MP Nickie Aiken have further intensified the campaign for clean air around Marylebone Station.
Our MP has arranged for her Marylebone Station Clean Air Petition, with hundreds of signatures, to be submitted to 10 Downing Street with the St Marylebone Society and Ward Councillor, Barbara Arzymanow.
More strong evidence for the poor air quality at Marylebone Station was revealed by new air quality sensor on Boston Place. Results showed levels of NO2 are eight times higher than those recommended by the WHO and were obtained over a period when Chiltern Railways are operating only two out of a potential fleet of six highly polluting long-distance trains to Birmingham.
Pre-covid, the number of train journeys out of the station was about five times higher. These trains idle for about 15 minutes before leaving. The actual results for air quality on Boston Places and across London can be viewed here.
We will continue to keep up pressure on Government to #ditchthediesel.
