Abandoned ebikes in St John's Wood

Last week at the full Council meeting of Westminster City Council, Cllr Paul Swaddle OBE, raised the question of the management of dockless bikes.

Paul explains

"These are still an issue in many places, with bikes badly parked blocking pavements and overflowing bays.

"Despite people across Westminster raising their concerns, the Labour-led Council seem to be in denial and is burying its head in the sand. This is unacceptable - they must start to listen.

"In neighbouring Kensington and Chelsea, the Council and TfL have taken a stronger position. They have started to take bikes off the streets when badly parked, and fining the operators. Westminster should be doing the same.

"I say enough is enough, if the operators won't clean up their act, then if the Conservatives are elected to run the Council in May next year, we will start taking bikes off the streets and fining operators. I want dockless bikes to work - I use them myself -  but this is not the Wild West!"

Dockless bikes’ parking chaos

Despite reassurances from the Labour-led Council, dockless bikes continue to run riot and block streets and pavements across the city. The council has introduced new parking spaces for dockless bikes and e-scooters last year, but it is clear the scheme is not working.
