Hands Off Oxford Street!

Oxford Street at Christmas

Your local Conservative Councillors are calling for Labour-run Westminster City Council to stand up to the Government and rethink their plans to transfer powers to the Mayor of London to manage Oxford Street.

The decision by the Deputy Prime Minister, to give Mayor Khan new powers so he can force through his plan to pedestrianise Oxford Street is a clear breach of trust with local people who have consistently made their views known that they do not want traffic transferred onto their streets.

The Mayor has revived the same scheme he proposed in 2017, which local people rejected. It will make Oxford Street less accessible and push traffic and pollution onto surrounding roads.

We cannot let the Mayor disregard local views. If you agree, please add your name to our petition below.

We have written to Westminster Council Leader, Adam Hug and our London Assembly Member for Westminster, urging them to stand up for local people, oppose the plans and bring forward a Judicial Review if needed. You can read those letters below

Oxford Street may be the nation's high street, but it's also a local high street for thousands of local people. We cannot let the Mayor or Government ride roughshod over the firmly held views of local people that pedestrianising our iconic street is unworkable.

Westminster Council must fight these proposals, put local people first, and call for a Judicial Review if needed.

If you share our concerns, add your name to our petition below.

Hands off Oxford Street!

Welcoming Cllr Tim Barnes to our Westminster team

Monday, 23 September, 2024
Last Thursday, voters in Westminster's West End rejected Westminster Labour and elected Conservative Tim Barnes to be their local representative. Tim, who served as a councillor between 2018 and 2022, gained this seat from Labour with a near 10% swing. He secured 49% of the vote, Labour 38%, the Greens 7% and the LibDems 6% - showing that the Conservatives are the only effective opposition to Labour here.
