Ian Rowley

Councillor for Marylebone Ward

Ian Rowley has lived in Marylebone for 24 years with his wife. He has been a Councillor since 2007 and has a PhD in economics. In the Conservative administration he chaired the council’s Audit and Performance Committee and sits on a scrutiny committee and various operational boards. He also chaired the Conservative group’s backbench group. He currently sits on the finance, planning and economic development policy and scrutiny committee.

Ian’s professional back ground is in investment management. Ian is involved in supporting the arts, having chaired the charity and education committee of the Worshipful Company of Painter Stainers, where he is Renter Warden.

He can often be seen being walked by Becky, his Italian Greyhound. During COVID he coordinated thousands of phone calls to local people.

While the first passenger journeys took place as the new Hybriflex train left Marylebone station last week, we have also secured funding to pay for Breathe Easy Monitors at six new locations affected by poor air quality, including schools. The readings will be analysed by Imperial College.

Following complaints from people living in Marylebone Mews, on the same day our Highways Inspector visited a site where an unauthorised hoarding had been put up. The hoarding was quickly removed that evening and the builders were advised to apply for appropriate licences.
