The Fight for Oxford Street

This election is a referendum on Oxford Street

The Mayor Sadiq Khan has approved pedestrianisation on Oxford Street. He has ignored serious concerns about access for less mobile people, the removal of bus routes and traffic displacement into surrounding areas.

Westminster Labour allowed this to happen.

They surrendered control to Sadiq Khan, classified the decision as minor to prevent scrutiny, and buried the consultation data that would have exposed the true strength of opposition from those directly affected by Sadiq Khan's vanity project.

Westminster Conservatives ran a local referendum: it was unambiguous. Local people overwhelmingly oppose these plans.

When Conservatives brought forward a legal fighting fund at the council budget to challenge the scheme and stand up for our city, Labour voted it down.

Westminster Labour had a choice between their Mayor, Sadiq Khan, and their residents. They chose Sadiq Khan.

Our Plan to Stand Up for Westminster on Oxford Street

This is your chance to tell Sadiq Khan and Westminster Labour that Oxford Street belongs to the people of Westminster.

On 7 May, you have a choice between a Labour council that continues to ignore your concerns and a Conservative council that will listen, fight for you and stand up to Sadiq Khan.

Westminster Conservatives will always put local people first.

If a Conservative council is elected on 7 May, we will:

  • Establish a legal fighting fund to stand up to Mayor Sadiq Khan

  • Fight to protect bus routes, especially for less mobile passengers

  • Champion step free access at Oxford Circus underground station

  • Demand the Mayor releases the full consultation data so local opposition cannot be buried again

  • Oppose any scheme imposed without genuine local consent

Labour had every chance to stand up for the people of Westminster. They failed every time.

Oxford Street must be shaped by the people who live here. Not handed over as a vanity project for a Mayor who does not listen to local people in Westminster.

On 7 May, join us in the fight for an Oxford Street shaped by local people. Vote Conservative.
