Homelessness and rough sleeping is rising under Labour

A close-up photograph captures a hand holding a small, paper cup with a hot beverage outdoors on a cold winter day, emphasizing the serenity and quiet of a chilly moment. The scene composition centers on the hand and the cup, which are positioned in the foreground. The hand, clad in a dark jacket with a visible cuff, grips the cup gently, with fingers wrapped around its textured surface. The background is blurred, featuring snow-covered ground and indistinct figures or objects

Westminster's homeless and rough sleeping crisis reaches record highs on Westminster Labour's watch. We spoke with the Conservative Leader of Westminster City Council, Cllr Paul Swaddle, to find out more. Paul explained,

The numbers are stark. Homelessness and rough sleeping in Westminster are at record highs and is the highest of any council in the UK.

The Labour-led council has allowed this crisis to get worse, with near year-on-year increases, without proper support to help people off the streets.

This is the reality of life under this Labour-led Council: distracted by pet projects and headlines instead of helping vulnerable people who really need it.

Westminster’s homeless and rough sleeping crisis is Labour’s crisis:

  • Organised criminal exploitation that sits behind homelessness and rough sleeping left unchallenged
  • Sadiq Khan ignoring entrenched encampments on TfL land, resulting in tent cities
  • And the most vulnerable left without meaningful intervention

It does not have to be this way.

Our Plan for Caring Conservatism

Westminster Conservatives believe in compassion with grip. That means genuine support for people sleeping rough or facing homelessness, combined with firm action against the organised criminal networks that prey on the most vulnerable.

If elected in May, we will:

  • Enhance personalised outreach and strengthen collaboration with local organisations
  • Improve transitional accommodation with wraparound support
  • Take firm action against organised criminal exploitation
  • Challenge the Mayor on TfL tent encampments

Westminster deserves a council that treats this crisis with the urgency it demands. Westminster Conservatives will bring compassion and accountability, not managed decline.

At Labour’s Westminster City Council budget last week, I made Westminster Labour answer for their reckless spending and weak action on rising crime and declining street standards. Westminster Labour has wasted £27 million on a failed housing contractor, self-awarded senior Labour councillors pay rises of up to 62 per cent and are projected to hike your Council Tax by 75 per cent over the next four years.
