Westminster Labour voted to leave local people without the funds to fight Sadiq Khan's Oxford Street vanity project.
At Labour-led Westminster City Council's budget, Westminster Conservatives brought forward an amendment to establish a legal fighting fund to challenge the Mayor's pedestrianisation scheme and force proper scrutiny of the impact it will have on local people.
Labour voted it down.
Local people have been ignored at every turn. Residents and businesses have raised serious concerns about bus routes, disabled access, and traffic being pushed into residential streets.
The Mayor has refused to listen and won't release the postcode-level consultation data that would expose the true strength of local opposition. Westminster Labour handed him control, classified the decision as 'non-major' to block scrutiny, and voted against the only tool that could have held him to account.
So we went directly to the people of Westminster. Our local referendum was clear: residents overwhelmingly oppose these plans.
But Westminster Labour chose Sadiq Khan over you.
Enough is enough.
People in Westminster deserve to be heard and their concerns taken seriously.
Westminster Conservatives will keep fighting for local people.
If elected in May, we will:
Set up a legal fighting fund to challenge the Mayor's Oxford Street vanity project
Fight to protect bus routes so less-mobile people are not left behind
Demand Mayor Sadiq Khan publish the consultation data on Westminster postcodes to show local opposition
Support an Oxford Street shaped by the people who live here, not imposed by City Hall
Westminster Labour had a choice. They chose Sadiq Khan over the residents of Westminster.
