Following reports of petrol-like contamination in the Morgan House water supply last April, serious concerns remain about the handling of the investigation.
We've written to Labour’s leadership demanding an urgent public meeting with residents, Housing Services, Environmental Health, and Thames Water.
Where a community’s water has been compromised, candour, accountability, and transparency aren’t optional, they’re essential.
We will continue to stand with Morgan House residents until they get the full answers and reassurance they deserve.
Read Cllr David Harvey's letter below.
I write as Opposition Housing Lead and with the full support of ward councillors for Pimlico North regarding the Environmental Health report into the water contamination incident at Morgan House on 15 April 2025.
Residents reported at the time that the water supply smelt strongly of petrol. That is an exceptionally serious allegation, engaging both potential public health risk and the wider issue of resident confidence in the Council and its contractors. While the Environmental Health team has now issued its report, a number of material concerns and apparent discrepancies remain.
These are causing understandable anxiety among residents.
In circumstances of this gravity, transparency and open engagement are essential. I am therefore formally requesting that the Council convene, as a matter of urgency, a joint meeting involving:
- Residents of Morgan House
- Housing Services
- The Environmental Health team
- Thames Water
The purpose of the meeting would be to review the findings in detail, address outstanding questions, and agree any necessary follow-up actions.
We are concerned to understand that the Environmental Health team is currently unwilling to participate in such a meeting. In our view, that position is not consistent with the Council’s duty of candour, nor with the need to rebuild trust. Where residents have experienced contaminated water with a petrol like odour, it is entirely reasonable that they should be able to question officers and external agencies directly.
Residents are entitled to clarity, accountability and reassurance. A properly convened joint meeting is the most constructive and proportionate way to achieve that.
We would be grateful for your urgent intervention to ensure that this meeting is arranged without further delay, and for confirmation of proposed dates.
