Geoffrey Osborne Scandal: Labour cost Westminster taxpayers millions

A yellow construction vehicle extends its arm toward a partially built structure with scaffolding, as two workers in safety gear stand on the upper level. Houses and a cloudy sky are visible in the background.

A multi-million pound scandal: Labour-led Westminster continued to award building contracts to construction firm Geoffrey Osborne despite clear and publicly available warning signs about the company’s financial instability.

📉 The risks were obvious well before Labour approved the contract in September 2022.

In 2021, the firm posted a £14 million loss and sold off its infrastructure arm.

Any competent council administration would have paused and demanded far deeper scrutiny.

Labour-led Westminster did not.

They ignored the warning signs, pressed ahead regardless and the people of Westminster are now paying the price.

🧾 Labour are responsible for this failure

This reckless decision was taken by the Labour-led Council, signed off by Labour Cabinet Members and lies entirely with the Labour administration. They cannot shift responsibility or blame anyone else.

It only points to one thing: a Labour council in dysfunction and millions of pounds of local people’s money wasted.

Most concerning of all, the decision was signed off by Labour Councillor Boothroyd, who remains in post.

The Labour Cabinet Member who approved this flawed and costly decision must take responsibility and resign.

📝 Even the Council has admitted it is having to change its procedures.

That admission confirms this was not bad luck or hindsight: it was avoidable, foreseeable and entirely self-inflicted.

This failure sits alongside a wider record of Labour’s economic mismanagement in Westminster, including:

  • Helping themselves to staggering pay rises of over 45 percent
  • Failing to stand up for Westminster in the Fair Funding Review
  • Opening the door to eye-watering council tax rises without local input
  • Allowing TfL price hikes while fare evasion goes unchecked
  • Targeting family homes through Labour’s Family Home Tax

❌ This is Same Old Labour: in office, but not in control. Poor judgement, wasting millions in public money and higher costs for local people.

✅ Westminster Conservatives believe local people deserve better than this.

That means restoring economic competence, safeguarding taxpayers’ money and delivering value for money for the people of Westminster.

Only Westminster Conservatives stand up for local people and protect their hard-earned money.
