Labour has lost control: Tent Cities in Westminster

12 DAYS OF LABOUR FAILURE

Today, we are launching our 12 Days of Labour Failure: a daily spotlight on how Labour’s weak leadership, poor decisions and lack of grip at every level are letting Westminster down.

DAY 1 OF LABOUR FAILURE: TENT CITIES

Labour inaction allows Tent Cities to take hold in Westminster

Westminster should be a safe, clean and orderly city. But Labour-led Westminster Council and Sadiq Khan have allowed parts of our city to be overtaken by Tent Cities that are fuelled by crime, anti-social behaviour, open drug use and weak enforcement.

This is not about homelessness. It is about tent encampments that have become hotspots for anti-social behaviours and criminality.

Residents, workers and visitors increasingly report areas where:

  • drug dealing is operating openly
  • aggressive behaviour is commonplace
  • bonfires, BBQs and street drinking are left unchallenged
  • tents become bases for crime, not shelters
  • public spaces are blocked, damaged or unsafe after dark

And behind many of these sites are vulnerable people exploited, coerced or trapped in modern-day slavery. They deserve protection. Not abandonment in dangerous encampments.

Labour talks tough, but their failure to enforce the law shows they have no meaningful commitment to supporting the vulnerable or law and order.

The reality is clear: Labour has delivered lawlessness, unsafe streets and a council that has lost control of our streets.

Westminster Conservatives are taking a stand: clamp down on Tent Cities and restore safety

Westminster Conservatives are compassionate for people but have a zero tolerance for crime.

We will take firm, decisive action:

  • Robust policing and enforcement of drug dealing, aggressive behaviour and ASB

  • Immediate action on tents used for criminality and disorder

  • Zero tolerance for bonfires, BBQs and anti-social behaviour including intimidation and threats

  • Proper monitoring of hotspots with rapid response

  • Full coordination between Council, police and TfL for consistent enforcement

  • Support for genuine rough sleepers and victims of modern-day slavery, but not to be confused with criminal encampments

This is how Westminster Conservatives would restore order, safety and confidence in our public spaces.

If the Conservatives are elected to lead Westminster again in May 2026, we will make tackling Tent Cities a top priority: restoring enforcement, protecting residents and ending the disorder Labour has allowed to grow.

You can help by backing our campaign to call for Westminster Council to clamp down on criminal encampments, restore consistent enforcement and keep our streets safe.

By signing our petition, you are backing calls for:

  • Firm action against criminal encampments and persistent anti-social behaviour

  • Consistent enforcement from the Council, police and TfL to restore safety

  • Separate, targeted support for genuine rough sleepers without allowing Tent Cities to grow

Do you agree?
Labour must act now to end Tent Cities and restore safety
I do not support more action on crime-fuelled tent encampments
