We spoke to Cllr Rachael Robathan and Police Sergeant Claire Napper, to hear first-hand the progress being made to tackle the car meets on Exhibition Road, Knightsbridge.
Cllr Robathan explains,
I just want to provide an update on the work that we've been doing with the police, our excellent local policing team, here on Exhibition Road.
And as I mentioned some months ago, we allocated some money from our ward budget, which is decided by the local councillors for the local priorities to the police to do some overtime shifts to make sure that we could really disrupt the car meets.
And I'm delighted that over the last eight weeks, we've had no car meets. So I'm joined here by Sergeant Claire Napper, who's leading the local ward police team. Claire, can you talk a bit about what works been going on?
Sergeant Claire Napper replied,
Thankfully, we've had the budget from you, which is really helpful. And the team have worked their absolute socks off to be up there every weekend. They've changed their shifts, they've done some extra hours, so that we could be there to prevent them from happening.
And every weekend, cars have come up, they've seen the police are there, and they turn around and left, which has been fantastic.
Cllr Rachael Robathan concluded,
Well, it's great, and that means less disruption for our residents and a much safer environment.
So we really want to build on this work.
