On Wednesday, 10 September, members of the public can attend or watch online the full meeting of Westminster City Council. The public are welcome to ask questions, which need to be raised in advance.
We spoke to Cllr Paul Swaddle, Leader of the Opposition Conservative Group at the Council, to explain the process.
Did you know your voice holds power in the heart of Westminster?
At our Full Council meetings, members of the public have a unique opportunity to directly question the Labour administration on issues that matter most to you.
We've observed a concerning trend: a tendency to fill these vital public slots with pre-arranged, 'easy' questions. This silences the genuine concerns of our community. That's why we need your help to ensure real issues are heard.
If you share a frustration with the current direction of the Labour Council, we invite you to step forward and ask a question at the next Council meeting on Wednesday, 10 September. Your question can be on any matter for which the Council is responsible.
Perhaps you're concerned about:
• Whether the council is adequately holding the Mayor of London to account on rising crime in our city.
• Concrete plans to tackle the persistent issue of dockless bike dumping.
• Labour’s stance on defending Oxford Street from divisive pedestrianisation plans.
• Or any other pressing topic in your neighbourhood. The process is straightforward:
• The online question submission form opens this Wednesday, 20 August.
• It closes one week before the meeting, Wednesday 3 September, so ensure you submit your question promptly.
• If selected, you'll need to attend the meeting in person at Old Marylebone Town Hall to ask your question. Rest assured, a helpful team is there to support you through the process, and you'll have up to two minutes to speak.Prefer a different approach? If you have a question but are unable to attend or would like assistance, please let my team and me know. We can also explore whether your local Conservative Councillor can raise the question on your behalf.
