Uncertain future for Westminster's Post Offices

Swaddle Speaks Up

Over the past months we have been campaigning locally to save the eight post offices at risk in Westminster.

These post offices are under threat of closure by the Post Office, but we believe these are vital community assets and should remain open or be replaced.

Post Offices serve an important role, especially as banks are closing, for older people and those who are unable or uncomfortable going online.

The Labour Party claims that these post offices have been saved, but in truth all that has happened is that it's been agreed that they can be franchised out to third parties. There is no guarantee that any of these post offices will remain open and as such our campaign continues. Sadly the popular post office in Eccleston Street has already closed despite efforts to find someone to take it on as a franchise.

Many of you have already signed our petition to save these Post Offices, but we need your help. Please take a moment to forward this e-mail to three friends and ask them to sign our petition, we need broad community support to save these vital assets.

PS The eight post offices threatened are: Aldwych, Baker Street, Broadway, Great Portland Street, Knightsbridge Raphael Street,  Lupus Street, Praed Street, and Vauxhall Bridge Road. Eccleston Street has already closed.

Help hold Westminster's Labour Council to account

Monday, 18 August, 2025
At Full Council meetings, members of the public have a unique opportunity to directly question the Labour administration on issues that matter most to you. We've observed a concerning trend: a tendency to fill these vital public slots with pre-arranged, 'easy' questions. This silences the genuine concerns of our community. That's why we need your help to ensure real issues are heard.
