The Post Office has announced proposals to close their branch in Eccleston Street when the lease on the premises expires this September.

We are working across our local community to oppose the closure and save the Post Office, which is a vital resource for the local community.

Prospective MP Tim Barnes joined Nickie Aiken, MP for the Cities of London & Westminster, members of the public, local councillors and the Communication Workers Union at the Post Office today. Tim explained,

"We're here on Eccleston Street in the heart of Belgravia.

"One of the local resident assets that's extremely important to the local people who live here.

"Unfortunately, their local post office is under threat of closure, and it's a long way to get to anything similar anywhere else in this part of town. In fact, this is the only post office left in Belgravia, and the fear of closure is real.

"It's something that's an asset, that's a huge importance to people who live here and the people who are passing through.

"Need a passport form, need access to picking up a parcel, dropping something off. This is the only place you can go. And it anchors Eccleston Street as a local high street."

Cities of London & Westminster MP Nickie Aiken added,

"So we're working with local people and the staff at the post office, as well as the Communication Workers Union, to persuade the post office, not to close our post office.

"We've got to save our post office. We've got a petition. Please do sign it. Let’s send a very clear message, Save our Post Office."

Homelessness and rough sleeping is rising under Labour

Monday, 16 March, 2026
The numbers are stark. Homelessness and rough sleeping in Westminster are at record highs and is the highest of any council in the UK. The Labour-led council has allowed this crisis to get worse, with near year-on-year increases, without proper support to help people off the streets. This is the reality of life under this Labour-led Council: distracted by pet projects and headlines instead of helping vulnerable people who really need it.
