We are pleased to report very promising developments in this campaign, which was instigated months ago by your Lancaster Gate Action Team when it was clear we might lose Queensway Post Office as a consequence of Queensway’s ongoing development projects.
Your Lancaster Gate Action Team - Cllr Margot Bright, Laila Dupuy, Philip Stephenson-Oliver - and retiring Cllr Susie Burbridge have worked tirelessly with the Post Office senior managers for over 6 months to secure the future of our local post office.
The Post Office Ltd has now designated Queensway as a Main Post Office, so they want to retain the full range of services. In addition, it is on a list of only 30 post offices in the country chosen to offer high-street banking facilities, following a legal change now that bank branches are so few and far between.
Premises on the other side of the road are in the frame for its new home, with detailed drawings being made and re-made to meet the parent company’s stringent requirements for fitting all the services into a somewhat smaller site.
It seems the big developers didn’t realise how much local people, and many others from further afield who signed our petition, valued and used those services. There are 2000-Plus signatures on our petition so far, and it is still open for more.
There is some way to go before we can start counting our chickens, but your Lancaster Gate Action Team is continuing the campaign energetically.
To sign the petition, and/or be notified of the public consultation that would follow the finalising of these plans, please get in touch!
