Conservative Leader Rachael Robathan on the importance of freezing council tax this year

"On Wednesday, Westminster's Conservative administration voted to freeze council tax for the coming year"

explains the Conservative Leader of Westminster City Council, Rachael Robathan.

"And that's important because we know that this is a really critical time with households facing rising inflationary pressures, concern around energy prices and the cost of living crisis.

"So it's more important than ever that we as a Conservative administration do everything we can to keep council tax low while still delivering the best services that we can.

"Children's services, libraries, keeping our streets clean. These are all really critical services for our residents, and we need to be focused on value for money.

"Now, Labour also say that they're going to freeze council tax, but let's just look at what they do when they're in administration. In Brent and Camden, their residents are paying more than double what Westminster residents are paying, and yet they only get their bins emptied once every two weeks, whereas in Westminster, we have refuse collection three times every week.

"So what we're saying as a Conservative administration is that we understand we need to continue to focus on value for money and delivering the best services that we can for the lowest council tax in the entire country."

It's time for Safe Streets in Westminster

Wednesday, 1 April, 2026
Under Labour, crime has got worse. Phone theft, antisocial behaviour, public disorder and drug dealing have all increased. People think twice before using their phone on the street. Shopkeepers have accepted shoplifting as a daily reality. Families avoid their local parks. And schools have lost community police officers. All under Sadiq Khan’s watch as Westminster Labour have overseen managed decline.
