A message from our West End Action Team:
“The much-loved Curzon Cinema in Mayfair is again under threat. The owners of the building are again considering closing the cinema and redeveloping the building. This comes after considering closing the cinema in 2016/17. We don’t want a cinema with such rich history to close, denying future generations of movie goers the opportunity to watch film in what is an iconic venue.
To safeguard the future of Curzon Mayfair we would like Westminster City Council to designate the cinema as an “Asset of Community Value” (ACV). ACV status would make it far more difficult for new owners to change the use of the building the cinema is in, give the local community greater notice of any proposed changes, as well as give a community organisation the right to bid to buy the building, including time to raise funds, if it were to be sold. Further, it would underline the need to enforce the provisions of the Westminster City Plan (Policies 15B, C and D) to ensure the continuation of a cinema facility for the local community.”Timothy Barnes, Eoghain Murphy and Julie Redmond
