Road Closed

The works at Paddington Street and Chiltern Street are part of the Cycle  Quietway from Edgware Road to Fitzrovia and are scheduled for six weeks from the 24th of February to the 10th of April. The works at Paddington Street and Chiltern Street are part of the Cycle Quietway from Edgware Road to Fitzrovia and are scheduled for six weeks from 24 February to 10 April. These works could not have been completed during the Low Emission Neighbourhood (LEN) works in Marylebone High Street because this would have closed off Paddington Street at both ends making it impossible for suitable diversions and access. There was also works in Baker Street around this time that would have further impacted diversion routes and access.

There is never a good time to complete road works and FMConway should be notifying residents and businesses two weeks before the works are scheduled to commence and the Council has apologised on their behalf if this was not completed. Prior to this there was a public consultation in 2015 regarding the Quietway scheme and Traffic Order Consultation in 2019.

We finally have permission from the Diocese to protect and reinstate the area where the vault and human remains were discovered during LEN works last year.

Labour-run Council belatedly tries to distance itself from the Labour Government’s proposed planning reforms

Thursday, 14 August, 2025
Westminster Conservatives are delighted that the current Labour council has finally publicly agreed with the Conservative councillors’ position on Angela Rayner’s proposed planning reforms. This Labour Government has proposed completely removing local councillors from the decision-making process on almost all applications. Westminster Conservatives pointed out that this is undemocratic and could undermine public trust in planning decisions back in March.
