Silver Sunday

The brainchild of Warwick Ward Councillor, Christabel Flight, Silver Sunday is a day of fun and free events for older people held on the first Sunday of October every year. Cllr Flight started the special day seven years ago and now runs it through The Sir Simon Milton Foundation.

Christabel explained: "We had 70 events throughout Westminster this year, including dancing at the Crazy Coqs in Soho and a Tea for 100 Westminster residents at the Hungarian Embassy.  Nationally, there have been over 1,200 free events held across the UK, supported by hundreds of organisations and attended by tens of thousands of older people.  My ambition is to turn this into a day that ranks alongside Father's Day and Mothering Sunday in the national calendar to celebrate the lives of older people and give them the opportunities to meet new people."

Christabel’s next venture is the annual Free Tea Dance for 1000 Westminster residents aged 65+, which is now in its 14th year. It takes place in the Great Room, Grosvenor Hotel on Sunday, 1st December.
