Oxford Street

Richard Beddoe, our Ward Councillor and Cabinet Member for Place Shaping and Planning, has spent the last year working on the Oxford Street District Plan. We are pleased to report that he has now received Cabinet approval for its delivery along with funding for the proposed improvements to the district. The Council has secured £150m to fund the public-realm, greening, and pedestrian-priority schemes included in the Plan. The ambition is to strengthen the status of our world-renowned Oxford Street District, while making sure it remains a great place to live, work and visit, thereby securing its long-term future.

Officers are currently working on the design and associated modelling for the scheme and have held a series of meetings with local stakeholders, to discuss the proposals and answer detailed questions. The team have also met with a number of special-interest groups such as the Westminster Youth Council, the London Cycling Campaign and Living Streets.

The team hope to complete the concept-design and modelling-activity by the autumn. A new design-and-construction team will then come in to help deliver the projects, with the aim of getting the early work-packages on site by Spring 2020. You can see information about the early work-packages and Phase 1 works as they are entered on the project-website, bearing in mind that this is a dynamic process, and the website is being updated all the time.

For more information please go to www.osd.london or contact the team by email.
