We are often asked by residents about the best way to report suspicious behaviour to the Police. We have consulted them and been told that if a crime is in the process of taking place then you should ring ‘999’. If the offence has happened, then you should ring ‘101’.
If you are in a position to take a photo safely of the perpetrator that would be a great help. Having mobile phones have changed our lives in so many ways and they can be a useful tool to record issues but only if it is safe to do so. Criminals such as drug dealers can often be damaged and dangerous people so please be careful and sensible when considering taking a photo of someone you suspect is involved in something criminal. If it is not safe or you don’t feel comfortable then the police advise the best way of describing a suspect is by starting with their head as suggested in the diagram below.
