The weekend of 9th – 11th November saw Westminster Council commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World War. As a Council, we work very closely with the Armed Forces supporting a number of initiatives. These range from providing support to serving families to commemorating the 12 Westminster residents who won the Victoria Cross in the First World War.
For Armistice weekend, the focus was on remembering the 1+ million British and Commonwealth soldiers who fell during the First World War (which includes 2,000 Westminster residents). To remember the fallen, Westminster Council teamed up with Unlimited Group to display an hour-long feature on the iconic Piccadilly billboards. Accompanied with a marching boots sound, the display was centred on the shocking fact that it would take 10 days, 19 hours and 4 minutes for all the fallen to march across the screen.
