Churchill Conservatives joined our colleagues across Westminster in the campaign to save Belgravia Police Station. Sadly, the Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan refused to listen to us and is continuing with the planned closure. He seems more interested in wasting resources on gimmicks, such as pedestrianizing Oxford Street (which we oppose). Disturbingly, we have seen a drastic increase in drug dealing, drug taking, and anti-social behaviour across Westminster.
The Council’s Leader Cllr Nickie Aiken offered to house local neighbourhood police teams at City Hall in Victoria Street. I am working with councillors from neighbouring South Westminster wards to identify other locations that police could use once Belgravia Station closes in 2020. Going forward we will do everything possible to ensure we retain effective local policing.
