We are pleased to report that this project in Sutherland Avenue and Warrington Crescent will be completed in March. The cold weather delayed the project as the materials can only be laid when the temperature does not drop too low. We have had plenty of feedback about the project with the vast majority of people being supportive as long as the colour being used was not orange, which is why brown was chosen.
We had some comments about the black base colour when the project had to stop for a couple of weeks and can confirm it was only the base and was not ‘tar’ although it had that appearance. In addition to the tree pits themselves being filled, works are also being done to repair the footways/brick build outs and the kerbs around the trees.
As we have previously reported, this treatment will protect trees that we hope can last for up to 100 years. The material is hard wearing and pedestrian friendly and will also be easier to maintain and reduce littering that currently occurs in existing tree pits. The material is both permeable and expandable that enables the trees to grow and thrive. This is not a new idea and is being expanded across many areas across London and has also been used by Labour Mayor of London. The overall appearance and the area around the trees will be significantly improved from the current conditions as a result of this project.
