Previously we reported on a pilot safety scheme to improve the junction of Sutherland and Randolph Avenues. This was designed to reduce the number of personal injury collisions that had occurred at this location. As many of you will have seen, that pilot has taken place and it has enabled us to see what works and what does not.
It is clear that banning the right turn from southbound traffic along Randolph Avenue does not work, as it leads to dangerous U-turns being made by traffic along Sutherland Avenue opposite St Joseph’s School. The banning of right turns for northbound traffic along Randolph Avenue does work, as cars can safely make a left turn and use the Warrington roundabout to continue their journey. The full results of the pilot will be evaluated with only those parts of the scheme judged a success going ahead.
