Your councillors and London Assembly member Tony Devenish brought one of Transport for London’s senior traffic advisers to look at the delays and motorist confusion created by the new layout at Lancaster Gate and Victoria Gate.

Residents’ representatives from the Hyde Park Estate and South East Bayswater Residents Associations got a chance to get their views of the problems across on site. Nigel Hardy, top advisor to London’s Deputy Mayor for Transport, agreed that there needs to be a fresh look at preventing southbound traffic on Westbourne Street diverting into residential areas, and at adjusting phasing to reduce tailbacks.

The potential to increase road capacity at the junction by making better use of Brook Street for cyclists will also be considered. As your councillors we will keep pressing for remedies to the situation created by Transport for London. Conservative councillor Antonia Cox said: “We know that residents are concerned about the increase in traffic in and around Connaught Street, caused by drivers avoiding Bayswater Road. We will continue to press Transport for London for improvements to their road scheme.”
