Moped Kildare

Many of local residents have expressed concerns to us about the worrying increase in moped related crime and anti-social behaviour in Bayswater. In particular, the use of Kildare Passage for moped riders to cut through from Newton Road to Kildare Gardens, leaving police unable to pursue them.

Following discussions with the council Bayswater Conservative Action team have succeeded in persuading the council to install an improved barrier at the bottom of Kildare Passage that is designed to allow pedestrians, prams, wheelchairs and cyclists through, while making it very difficult for mopeds to cross. Thanks should also go to James Lucas of Kildare Gardens, who has also been pressing the council to improve the barrier for some time.

A new three stage barrier was installed on Wednesday 31st January. We have our concerns about its design and ability to stop mopeds using the Passage and are in contact with Westminster Council about further improvements. We would welcome your feedback on the new barrier.

Richard Elcho attended the Safer Neighbourhood Partnership meeting recently and pressed police to ensure Bayswater residents’ concerns are responded to quickly.

Nearly 2,000 local residents have signed a petition calling on the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to ‘think again’ after he decided to close Paddington Green Police Station – leaving just one 24-hour Police Station in the whole of Westminster.

We stand together with local residents and oppose this change. The Mayor of London is responsible for policing in London and we’re calling on him to stop the closure and sell-off of our police stations in Westminster.
