Removing unauthorised advertising in NW8

The planning rules on advertising within a Conservation Area such as St John’s Wood are strict so when a number of unauthorised banners displayed at the Danubius Regent’s Park Hotel were brought to our attention we put the wheels in motion to have them removed. If residents notice any advertisement which could be breaching planning consent do get in contact by emailing us.

Historic wall reinstated

A wall of historic importance in Ormonde Terrace where it meets Prince Albert Road has been rebuilt brick by brick following a campaign by local residents in Ormonde Terrace. During construction work on a major development at 50 St Edmunds Terrace, the wall which had fallen into disrepair was found to be unsafe and so was demolished.

Your local Councillors responded to residents’ requests for this wall to be rebuilt, spearheaded by the late local resident Neville Jason a retired actor whose notoriety including a part in the James Bond film ‘From Russia with Love’.  Dr Matthew Dixon, Board Facilitator, Ormonde Terrace Ltd – the Freehold Company said ‘This was a labour of love for Neville Jason and with the help of Cllr Robert Rigby we are delighted this important wall has been reinstated and adds greatly to the appearance of Ormonde Terrace’.

Supporting Christmas in the ward

Your Councillors in Regent’s Park ward are once again supporting the Christmas lights on the High Street and the St John’s Wood Christmas Day lunch from council funds. The latter is organised by Neighbourcare whose aim is to provide relief from loneliness and isolation for people in St John’s Wood and Maida Vale. There are approximately 120 who sit down to lunch with over 30 coming from our ward. As David Hogarth, Chair of the Christmas Dinner Committee says ‘We are delighted once again to have the support of our local Councillors to help fund this important event for those residents who are alone at Christmas’. If you have any suggestions on local initiatives which could be supported by the ward budget do get in touch.

Restoring pavements

Keeping our highway and pavements in good condition especially outside properties being developed is important. Your local Councillors were notified of the poor state of the pavement outside a property in Hamilton Terrace following a major redevelopment. We moved quickly, contacting Officers who informed the developer at this site of the damage of up to 20 paving stones; repairs are due to be carried out shortly with the costs covered by the developer.

Often prior to works starting an inspection and survey will be carried out and a license issued so on completion any damage found will be billed to the developer for repairs. If you notice a pavement or highway which is potentially in need of repair whether they are next to a development or not, please do report it by www.westminster.gov.uk/report-it-roads-and-pavements or contact your Conservative Team using the details above.
