Relocation of benches on Maida Avenue
We were approached by a number of local residents who reported that two benches located at the top of Maida Avenue near Edgware Road were being misused and there were a significant number of instances of anti-social behaviour. Little Venice Conservative Councillor Melvyn Caplan worked with the city inspector and our neighbourhood police officer to arrange for the benches to be relocated to more suitable locations in Warwick Avenue.
Cllr Caplan commented: “Having safe, calm places for our residents to relax and break their journeys is an important facility, but we will always act to ensure that such facilities are not abused.”
New lights at zebra crossings
Your local Conservative councillors have been pushing for improved lighting at various zebra crossings within the ward and particularly around Warwick Avenue tube station. We are pleased to report that our requests have been approved and additional brighter lights will be installed on the crossings over the coming months.
Little Venice Councillor Ian Adams commented that the safety and security of our residents is a key issue which we are determined to protect.
Edgware Road pavements repaired
We have been pressing Transport for London (TFL) to repair a section of pavement outside Parsons House on Edgware Road. As we have previously reported, there have been a number of pavement improvements within the ward over the last 18 months and we are pleased that TFL have finally responded to our requests to repair this busy section of pavement.
Health and Wellbeing in Little Venice
An inner City borough like Westminster may not seem like an obvious place for healthy lifestyles. However, the facts definitively show that Westminster, and indeed Little Venice, is a healthy place to live. The most recent data from the Office for National Statistics show that the life expectancy in Little Venice is 84.5 years, This compares with 83.8 years for Westminster, 82.1 years for London and 81.3 years for the whole of England.

Barbara Arzymanow says, “Your Councillors are mindful that we must not become complacent and are constantly on the lookout for ways to offer residents opportunities to improve their lifestyles.” In the areas of physical fitness Little Venice offers the Sports Club on Crompton Street which provides a gateway to the Everyone Active network of facilities. We also continue to keep an eye on the inner city issues that potentially affect all wards such as poor air quality caused by traffic pollution, engine idling and diesel emissions.
