Happy Christmas from the St. James's Councillors

We were delighted that once again the St James’s Ward Budget funded a Christmas Tree on Strutton Ground to add to the festive look of an important street market.

Cllr Louise Hyams and Cllr Tim Mitchell joined local residents for the lighting up ceremony. The audience were joined by the wonderful choir of St. Matthew’s Primary School, Old Pye Street, who delighted the assembled crowd with a medley of Christmas carols.

Once the planned refurbishment of Strutton Ground has finished, a permanent tree will be planted that we can decorate with festive lights every year.

Louise, Tim and Cameron wish all our Residents a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Peaceful New Year.

Spiegel Tent in Leicester Square

Local residents and businesses have welcomed the return for a second year of the Christmas Market and Theatre in Leicester Square. The hoardings around the square have been beautifully decorated with festive drawings by children from our primary schools and the trees in the Square are adorned with lovely lights funded by HOLBA, the Heart of London Business Alliance, who are the Council’s partners in many projects in the area.

The funfair which was in the square for many years has not been missed and the consensus is that the entertainment now offered is a vast improvement.

Two million people a week are visiting Leicester Square, Piccadilly and Regent Street during the festive season and enjoying the beautiful decorations.

Waste and recycling collection at Christmas

Every part of St James’s Ward gets their waste and recycling collected at least twice a week. For residents who have rubbish or recycling collections on Mondays then there will be no collection on Christmas Day, Monday 25 December. Instead, your next waste collection will be later in the week on the next normal collection day. If your recycling collection is scheduled to be on Christmas Day, a special recycling collection will take place on Saturday 23 December 2017.
