The scheduled Public Enquiry on the future of The Carlton Tavern opened this week at Westminster City Hall. The Enquiry will see the Planning Inspectorate considering two appeals in relation to the Council's refusal of planning permission for the redevelopment of The Carlton Tavern, and the subsequent enforcement notice requiring its reconstruction. This follows the cynical and unauthorised demolition of the well-loved, historical and architecturally interesting Maida Vale pub just over one year ago.
Maida Vale's Conservative councillors Thomas Crockett and Jan Prendergast have worked tirelessly to support the Community they represent on these issues and have been successful in lobbying the Council to take the strongest possible action to ensure the Pub is restored in facsimile - 'brick by brick'.
Cllr Thomas Crockett says: "We have entered what I am confident will the final chapter in this sorry story. Whatever happens I am proud to have ensured that no stone has been left unturned in doing everything we can to right this wrong. I am in awe of the spirit and drive of the Community I am humbled to represent and I am exceedingly grateful to Cllr Robert Davis and Council officers for their unprecedented response." Councillor Prendergast said that she and Cllr Crockett looked forward to sharing ‘first orders’ in the rebuilt Tavern with the community they represent and raising a glass in thanks to 'locals in their local' - The Carlton Tavern.
