Westminster Conservatives have ensured that every single Westminster resident child has been offered a school place, primary or secondary, for September 2015. 94% of Westminster resident children going to school for the first time at one of our primary schools secured one of their top three preferences. The figure was 84% for those going to secondary school.
Over 22,000 young people go to school in Conservative Westminster every day and 90 % of those attend a school rated as “Good” or “Outstanding”. All but two secondary schools in Westminster are rated as “Outstanding”. Not surprisingly, our schools are becoming increasingly popular with parents, rightly keen to ensure their children are well equipped for the future.
Councillor Danny Chalkley, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "Westminster’s Conservative run council firmly believes that every young person is entitled to receive the best possible education regardless of background. We are delighted that we've been able to ensure that our children are going to great schools that they have been able to choose. After keeping young people safe from harm, providing an excellent education is our top priority and the single most important service we provide for our younger residents."
Westminster has a hugely diverse population with the number of young people entitled to free school meals, three times the national average and exceptionally high levels of children, for whom English, is an extra language. However, young people cannot learn if they are not receiving education and Westminster continues to have the highest school attendance in the country.
