Recent research published by The Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission ranks Conservative-run Westminster as ‘the best performing area’ in England for providing life chances for young people and reducing child poverty.
The Commission, chaired by former Labour Cabinet Minister, Alan Milburn, ranked local authorities on the chances they provide for disadvantaged young people to attend good schools, gain good qualifications and move on to successful employment.
The Report published by the Commission indicates that young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who live in Westminster are far more likely to have more opportunities to do well as adults than anywhere else in the country.
Council Leader, Philippa Roe, said: "This is what our City for All policies are all about; ensuring that every resident in Westminster reaches their full potential in a thriving, innovative City that achieves for all".
Cabinet Member for Children & Young People, Councillor Danny Chalkley said: "I welcome the report, which shows our young people in Westminster are achieving and have more opportunities available to them for the best life chances possible. I would like to pay tribute to the work of my outstanding team of officers, who work with all of our young people to ensure they do well and get on in life."
