Following the publication of the latest GCSE results, Conservative-run Westminster is ranked 1st in Inner London and 8th nationally for the key achievement marker at GCSE - the percentage of pupils achieving 5 A*-C GCSEs (including English and Maths). This good news follows a glowing endorsement from OFSTED, whose latest Annual Report ranks Westminster as 4th in the UK, with 95% of children attending primary schools ranked as outstanding or good – a whopping 10% above the national average.
Westminster’s officers have been working directly with schools to improve achievement and outcomes, targeting provision and assisting school leaders to plan for the future, as new, more rigorous syllabuses are gradually implemented.
Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Councillor Danny Chalkley said: “These excellent results are testament to the hard work of our wonderful children, teachers, head teachers and governors in Westminster. We will continue to work with them towards ambitious outcomes and to ensure every child in our Borough achieves their full potential”.
