Cllr Paul Fisher, Cabinet Member for Value for Money and Finance, and his deputy Cllr Elliot Keck, held a residents' engagement session at St Anne's Church in Soho to discuss the budget choices facing the council, after the Government confirmed a 50% cut to Westminster's funding.
Cllr Fisher said:
"We've been here engaging with residents here in St Anne's Church in Soho to discuss the budget choices that we're confronted with because the Government is reducing our funding by 50%.
"There are really tough decisions ahead.
"We want to make sure the council is more efficient.
"We're really keen to make savings. "
We're keen to keep your council tax as low as possible, and we'll be taking into account the views that have been given to us here and as part of our budget survey as we make the budget for next year."
Cllr Keck added:
"This is a significant cut to people's local council.
"It's going to mean council tax rises.
"It's going to mean service cuts.
"And we think that actually we should be putting aside Labour, Conservative, partisan differences and uniting to take on this terrible, terrible cuts imposed by the Government."
