Your local councillors have objected to the proposed installation of new public phone boxes in our ward and we are pleased to report Westminster Planning Officers agree with us. Four planning applications were received in October from Maximus Network (three on St John’s Wood Road and one on Park Road) all have been refused. This is in addition to the application for some 300 new boxes Westminster has received in the last two years. These boxes are effectively used as advertising vehicles and create additional street clutter and are not welcome. As a Council we are seeking greater powers from Government to reject these new kiosks given historic planning rules treat phone boxes as permitted development.
