Swaddle: Westminster Conservatives deliver complete reset of dockless bike enforcement
Conservative-led council seizes 235 bikes, agrees landmark data partnership with Lime and convenes first-ever Dockless Bike Operator Summit
Westminster Conservatives were elected on a clear promise: safe streets, a clean city and real action. That included tackling the dockless bike chaos inherited from Labour. Since taking office in May, the Conservative administration has delivered on that promise with a complete reset of dockless bike enforcement across Westminster.
The council has agreed a real-time data sharing partnership with Lime, giving enforcement teams live visibility of where every bike is parked across Westminster. For the first time, officers can see exactly where bikes are being abandoned, target problem areas directly and act with evidence.
The results are clear. Fixed Penalty Notices to operators are up 196 per cent on average since the Conservative administration took office in May. June was up 208 per cent on the May baseline. July is already up 183 per cent and rising.
The Conservative-led council is now seizing bikes directly from the city's streets using existing highway powers. Two hundred and thirty-five bikes have been removed from pavements, dropped kerbs and fire exits. Operators are required to pay removal and storage costs before a single bike is returned.
This week, the administration is convening the first-ever Dockless Bike Operator Summit, bringing every operator to the table to agree binding parking standards and long-term accountability for how bikes are used across Westminster.
