Maintaining Local Roads and Lighting

Westminster City Council works hard to keep its highways (roads & footways) and public lighting in the best possible order.  Immediate repairs are carried out throughout the year when a pavement or road surface becomes dangerous but an important part of our Highways work is our regular maintenance programme which we are now planning for the 2017/18 financial year.

Local councillor Tim Mitchell says: "We are keen to hear from residents about any carriageway, footway or public lighting in St James’s ward which you feel needs to be included in our regular maintenance programme."

Please email [email protected] with the name of the street, the problem, the precise location and your suggestion on the improvement works needed.

Keeping Our Alleyways Clean and Safe

Your St James's councillors regularly receive reports of anti-social behaviour in the narrow alleyways and footpaths in the Covent Garden and Strand area.

The Council's cleaning teams frequently hose down the pavements to remove the fouling. Our Neighbourhood Problem Solving Coordinator works with the St. Mungo’s Hotspot Team to find ways to help the rough sleepers who may be responsible.

Also we work with the Council's Lighting team to improve the night-time light levels where that will help prevent anti-social behaviour or crime.

Councillor Louise Hyams says: "Please contact us on email[email protected] if you experience any of these problems in your area and we will arrange for Council officers to visit you to find out the best way to solve the problems."
