Sometimes it takes months of pressure to get the right result for residents, but it’s worth it!

Back in February, Cllr Rachael Robathan chaired a meeting with council officers and the police to demand a new high-grip road surface at the Prince Consort Road / Exhibition Road roundabout to deter dangerous late-night car meets.

We’ve now had confirmation that these works will go ahead, with the new surface due to be laid in the next couple of months and certainly before Christmas – great news for Exhibition Road residents and everyone who visits the area.

Cllr Robathan explains

“Sometimes, as councillors, it can take us months of pushing and challenging to win the measures that are going to help our residents. Those of you who have followed this will know that back in February I chaired a meeting with council officers and the police, calling for a non-friction surface to be laid on the roundabout here at the junction of Prince Consort Road and Exhibition Road, which would do a huge amount to deter the highly dangerous and disruptive car meets which this area has been blighted by.

It has taken eight months since then, but I am delighted that today I have had confirmation that these works are going ahead, and that the new surface will be laid within the next couple of months, certainly before Christmas.

This is really good news for the residents around Exhibition Road and everyone who visits this area, so I am delighted.”

It's time for Safe Streets in Westminster

Wednesday, 1 April, 2026
Under Labour, crime has got worse. Phone theft, antisocial behaviour, public disorder and drug dealing have all increased. People think twice before using their phone on the street. Shopkeepers have accepted shoplifting as a daily reality. Families avoid their local parks. And schools have lost community police officers. All under Sadiq Khan’s watch as Westminster Labour have overseen managed decline.
