Russell House: Cllr Ed Pitt Ford raises local residents' concerns at Full Council

The Major Works programme for Russell House has been pushed back to 2025, leaving residents living with scaffolding and in a deteriorated building until then.

In the meantime, costs are mounting.

We continue to push for answers from the Cabinet Member for Housing Services as to why such a delay is needed and whether the council will be sharing the costs of the works.

At last night's Full Council, Pimlico North Conservative Councillor Ed Pitt Ford raised residents' concerns. You can watch their exchange above or read it below.

Cllr Ed Pitt Ford asked,

"My question is to the Cabinet Member for Housing Services. Does the Cabinet Member think that eight months is an acceptable time frame to answer questions from residents?"

The Labour Cabinet Member Cllr Liza Begum replied,

"I believe you're speaking about the Russell House, major works.

"First of all, let me say that's untrue. I have been in discussion with residents at Russell House and I have asked the team to organise a meeting with them. So it's untrue that I have not responded to our residents. It's just not true."

Cllr Pitt Ford followed up,

"So I understand you have responded but not actually answered the questions.

"So will the Cabinet member commit to responding to the questions raised by email on the 27th of January by residents of Russell House before the end of the month? And will she share her answers with all of the leaseholders and councillors?"

Cllr Begum replied,

"I have actually responded and there have been many threads around the same major works and I am happy to share those answers with yourselves and with other leaseholders."

There will be a public meeting on Wednesday 25th October 2023 at 6:30pm in Churchill Gardens Community Hall.

More Police in Marylebone

The single most important issue that residents tell us matters to them is feeling safe when walking around the area.

Unfortunately, we regularly receive reports about shoplifting in Marylebone. We have managed to get the council to install several CCTV cameras.
