Protecting our neighbourhood – planning applications

Construction

Planning applications are in to enlarge 22 Chapter Street, with a two-storey extension. Your Conservative councillors would like to know what you think: you can contact us directly, email us and you can also enter your thoughts directly on the council website.

Your councillors, Selina, Danny and David, have also had a number of meetings with the developers of the proposed new M Hotel on Vauxhall Bridge Road, as always, our aim is to make sure that your voice is heard.

Fighting for enforcement – the planning inspector has recently made two judgements generally supportive of lobbying from your Conservative councillors, community groups and individual residents. One went largely against the Air bnb hostel in the location of the former Surprise pub on Vauxhall Bridge Road and one against chain food stores established against planning conditions intended to support locally owned businesses. The work now is to enforce and since the legislation is complex and no longer fit for purpose, this is a really hard job for our officers whom we thank, as we do neighbours who have worked to support action against these breaches of planning law and who have been badly affected by them. We know that there is more to do.

BBC London: Westminster Council calls on the Mayor to support Soho businesses

Tuesday, 11 August, 2026
Cllr Tim Barnes explains that just two Westminster wards, West End and St James's, account for 26% of all "small crime" across the whole of London, which he says is exactly why some regulation of venues is necessary. He again pointed to the Mayor's record on transport as the bigger barrier to a good night out, saying Sadiq Khan "keeps cutting the night buses and won't bring in a late-night tube service on Thursdays."
