We caught up with Cllr Rachael Robathan, Leader of Westminster City Council, and Jan Prendergast, who is standing in next week's election, outside Beachcroft House Care Home.

Rachael Robathan explains

I'm standing here today in front of Beachcroft nursing home, which is one of the things we're proudest of delivering over the last administration.

This is a 84-bed nursing care home unit providing fantastic accommodation for the most vulnerable people in Westminster.

And it's particularly appropriate that I'm standing here with Jan Prendergast, who for many years was the ward councillor for Maida Vale and is standing again as a Conservative candidate in this election.

And Jan, you lobbied for this for so many years, you must be really proud of this.

Jan Prendergast explains

I'm absolutely delighted that the council has taken this up. It's a wonderful site here, ripe for building a home like this with state-of-the-art facilities.

We also have a now very out of date home further up in Maida Vale, some of the residents were able to move here and say what a great joy it is to have such wonderful homely facilities from the ones they were only used to in Carlton Dene. And brilliant achievements for the people of Maida Vale.

It's time for Safe Streets in Westminster

Wednesday, 1 April, 2026
Under Labour, crime has got worse. Phone theft, antisocial behaviour, public disorder and drug dealing have all increased. People think twice before using their phone on the street. Shopkeepers have accepted shoplifting as a daily reality. Families avoid their local parks. And schools have lost community police officers. All under Sadiq Khan’s watch as Westminster Labour have overseen managed decline.
