Oxford Street Pedestrianisation: What do local people think?

As Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, announces plans to pedestrianise Oxford Street, Councillor Paul Swaddle joined local campaigner Tim Barnes to hear the views of people living locally.

"I'm here with Tim Barnes to discuss the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street. Tim, you're the local candidate. What are residents telling you today?

Tim answered,

"Well, thank you, Paul. Residents are telling me that they don't think much has changed since 2018, when this idea last went out for consultation and it was overwhelmingly rejected by local people, local businesses and visitors.

"It's a Frankenstein idea of a policy being brought back to life merely to appease the ego of its creator. There's nothing new, and there's nothing that says that this plan is any better than it was last time out."

Paul concluded,

"If you want to have your say and have it heard in the Council, you need to elect Tim Barnes on Thursday."

If you share our concerns about the future of Oxford Street, please sign our petition.

Its time for Safe Streets in Westminster

Under Labour, crime has got worse. Phone theft, antisocial behaviour, public disorder and drug dealing have all increased. People think twice before using their phone on the street. Shopkeepers have accepted shoplifting as a daily reality. Families avoid their local parks. And schools have lost community police officers. All under Sadiq Khan’s watch as Westminster Labour have overseen managed decline.
