Carnival

The Notting Hill Carnival is approaching this weekend, with over 1 million attendees it is the world’s second biggest street carnival. Councillors Richard Elcho and Emily Payne started advocating in January on behalf of residents and have successfully agreed the provision of more portable loos. Due to our persistence this is the first year more (eco-friendly) loos will be provided throughout Bayswater including outside the carnival zone.

After long negotiations we were able to have the additional loos installed at Needham Road, St Stephens Crescent, Hereford Road, Westbourne Park Road and Monmouth Road. Further, the council has changed suppliers after not all loos were fully functional last year. This should mean an improvement for locals living within the Artesian Road grid and alleviate the issue of public urination. We look forward to your feedback.

This year the council has supported the push for carnival to be greener, offering food recycling service to street traders for the first time and pushing for no single use plastic.

Don’t forget to register with the council for a free basement and/or garden up clean post carnival by the 22nd August (to be given a date) or 5th September (no date given). In addition, for the first time, the Council is offering a deep, pressure clean service for £75 which you can register for. Please click here for further details.

Every resident should have received a booklet with further information, including a map of the zone, times when vehicle access is prohibited, cleaning services, parking options etc. If you have not, please see the electronic copy online here.
