The Metropolitan Police have placed restrictions on a UKIP-organised march due to take place in Edgware Road this Saturday, following concerns raised by local residents and businesses about potential disorder, according to the Standard. Under conditions imposed using the Public Order Act, participants must now assemble at Hyde Park Corner rather than Edgware Road, follow a specified route, and conclude the demonstration by 4.30 pm. Cllr Caroline Sargent, Deputy Leader of Westminster City Council, said a number of concerned residents had contacted the council about the march, adding that Westminster bears the brunt of protests of many kinds and that she condemns any march or demonstration that promotes hatred, division or intimidation. The restrictions come amid a reported rise in anti-Muslim hate incidents across London this year, with monitoring organisation Tell Mama recording more reports in the first six months of 2026 than across the whole of 2023.

"Westminster bears the brunt of protests of all kinds, and I am acutely aware of the disruption and concern that they can have on residents, businesses and local communities.
“I condemn any march or demonstration that promotes hatred, division or intimidation.”
