Cllr Tim Barnes, Cabinet Member for Growth and Planning, has accused the Mayor of London, Lord Khan, of trying to grab further powers over Oxford Street, licensing and planning in Westminster, while failing to deliver on the core responsibilities of his own office. Cllr Barnes said the Mayor needed to find the money to ensure London is policed properly, and to fund late-night buses and tubes so that people can get home safely after a night out. He said that if the Mayor was doing his job properly, Londoners would be able to enjoy a night out in the capital and get home safely afterwards.
"Sadiq Khan's failures are the real reason so much of Central London is in trouble. London's mayor, Sadiq Khan, is trying to grab Oxford Street. He's trying to grab licensing powers.
"He's trying to grab much of planning as well. But the truth is, it's the core of his job that's really in trouble. He needs to find the money so that we can be policed properly.
"He needs to find the money for late-night buses and tubes so that we can get home in the evenings.
"If he was doing his job properly, we'd all be able to have a night out on the town safely and to get home afterwards."
